The game of Aunt Sally is a friendly traditional communal game found in mainly Oxfordshire and some surrounding areas. Each player from the two opposing eight man teams has six sticks (batons) and with consecutive throws aims to cleanly knock the 'Doll' off the perch of the swan necked iron swizel. The swizel is set up at 2½ft from ground level by inserting it into a hollow pole secured to the ground.
As the eight players throw the batons consecutively, it is possible to record a maximum score of 48. The game is played over 3 legs (or horses) and by winning all the legs a team gains 3 vital league points.
Our Aunt Sally set consists of 6 Beech Batons, 1 Doll and 1 Swivel Iron.
